Sleighs, with and without a team
- Pulled by a pony, with a decorated tree and a pile of parcels beside it
- Pulled by two or three reindeer, in a village with houses, fir trees and clouds
- Carved or swirl-shaped, with stacked presents, snowy houses and the moon
- An empty vintage sleigh with curled runners, bells and a blanket on the seat
- Elves helping Santa load presents, or a sleigh parked on a snowy roof next to a chimney
One wooden sleigh full of presents stands in front of a snowy barn, with no Santa and no team. The reindeer coloring pages have the team on its own.
Reading the scenes
In the village sheets the sleigh sails past chimneys and clouds. In the landscape sheets, snowy fir trees and a cabin sit below a moon, so there are two layers to color: the ground and the sky.
Two dates for the flying sleigh
| Year | What happened |
|---|---|
| 1823 | The poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" gives Santa a sleigh and eight reindeer. |
| 1955 | The North American air defense command (today NORAD) begins to "track" Santa every December 24, after a misprinted phone number in an ad. |
A night sky behind the sleigh
- Color the sleigh in one warm color and the harness in another.
- Give each reindeer in a team a slightly different brown.
- Add a golden shine to the bells of the vintage sleigh with a yellow pencil.
- Tape two finished sheets edge to edge to make a longer night sky.
- Leave the moon white or pale yellow, so it stands out from a dark sky.
On sheets where Santa is only part of the picture, you can find more of him on the Santa coloring pages.
